World Book Day

World Book Day

Book worms across the globe are preparing for the 20th annual World Book Day. The event is taking place on the 20th March 2017 and celebrates everything reading related, from authors and illustrators to books themselves.

Across the U.K, school children will be dressing up as their favourite characters (something the IglooBooks staff also like to take part in), whilst schools and library's will be hosting a range of fun activities.

------------------------------------

In celebration of World Book Day we've asked our magnificent author, Melanie Joyce, to detail the process she takes when coming up with ideas, and writing stories:

"Our main focus as a publisher, and mine as a writer, is all about creating an enjoyable and memorable experience for the children, and adults, who read our books. I want to offer stories that are simple to read and easy to follow, but exciting and engaging. We appeal to a broad audience, with varying levels of reading ability and comprehension, so a great deal of thought goes into the vocabulary and expression of ideas within our texts.

I live and breathe story writing. I get inspiration from all around me; from everyday life, from the internet, from our creative team here at IglooBooks, from people outside the company, from everywhere! So when the publisher gives me a brief (which could be for a treasury of twenty princess stories, or a single picture book) I just love it, and find the challenge of thinking up new concepts really exciting. Usually, as soon as I get the brief, the ideas start flowing, and I map out what is called a synopsis; this is a basic outline to show the publisher what I intend to happen in the story. Once this is approved, I will start writing the text, page by page. It is so much fun to write the books that we publish, and I know that in terms of quality of content, we give the most excellent value for money. My goal is always for children to keep the stories, long into adulthood, and maybe even share them with their own children, so they will always remember how much they love Igloo books!"
